Yemen Emergency Appeal Yemen Emergency Appeal

After fours years of conflict, Yemen faces a renewed outbreak of cholera.

It is two years since Yemen witnessed the world’s largest outbreak of cholera, which saw over a million suspected cases and 3000 associated deaths. The lack of a functioning healthcare system and limited access to safe water and hygiene poses a serious threat to controlling the disease. In the past year there have been around hundreds of thousands of suspected cholera cases and hundreds of deaths.

CARE is already reaching more than 1 million people every month in Yemen, providing lifesaving food, water, medical supplies, and other critical aid to those in need.

How CARE is helping

CARE has worked in Yemen since 1992 and is one of few international aid agencies braving the conflict and continuing to deliver humanitarian aid under extremely challenging circumstances. We have already reached millions people in some of the hardest-hit and most hard-to-reach areas.

Working with local partner organisations, we are repairing water systems, constructing toilets, distributing hygiene kits and relief supplies.

To limit the spread of cholera, CARE is providing safe water to public facilities like hospitals and schools and supporting solid waste disposal through clean up campaigns in public spaces.

We are doing everything possible to ensure children and families have something to eat by distributing food and cash, often in hard-to-reach areas.
