CARE Australia appoints Sally Moyle as CEO

September 14, 2016 by

The Board of CARE Australia, one of Australia’s leading global humanitarian organisations, today announced the appointment of Ms Sally Moyle as its Chief Executive Officer. Ms Moyle succeeds Dr Julia Newton-Howes and will commence in the role on 31 October 2016.

Chair of CARE Australia, Mr Colin Galbraith, said “We are fortunate to have been able to attract someone of Sally’s stature and standing in the area of international development. Sally truly understands what it takes to alleviate poverty and promote positive and sustainable change in communities in need.”

Mr Galbraith continued, “Sally is one of Australia’s leading thinkers and influencers in international development policy and practice through her work with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. At CARE we believe that overcoming poverty is not an abstract goal, but a genuine possibility. Sally brings the exact skills and experience to help make that a reality and to take CARE Australia forward as a leading global humanitarian organisation.”

Ms Moyle is currently Principal Gender Specialist and Assistant Secretary with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has been in senior executive roles in the Australian Government since 2008, including the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Office for Women, and working on Indigenous Affairs and in Disability Care in the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. Previously, Ms Moyle spent many years addressing gender issues at the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Ms Moyle said, “I am extremely honoured to lead such a dynamic and effective organisation as CARE Australia and to work alongside our passionate staff, partners, volunteers and supporters. Through supporting development activities in over 95 countries and through our emergency assistance, CARE Australia can achieve a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live with dignity and security.”
