This February we set out to raise $200,000 to help give mothers like Dana a chance to start their lives again after fleeing conflict. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we are thrilled so say we reached our target!
On behalf of mothers like Dana everywhere, thank you so much for helping to protect children and families during times of poverty, hardship and crisis.
Dana is one of five million people who have fled the brutal conflict in Syria, and her eight-month journey to safety was filled with peril:
“We left in the middle of the night on foot. If the army or other armed groups had caught us we would have been killed. We walked for ten hours to the Turkish border. I had to carry my two-year-old all the way. His legs are too little to walk so far.”
Dana and her sons travelled 2,814 kilometres, hiding from armed groups in Syria, and crossing from Turkey to Greece in a dinghy. They even survived capture by smugglers, and were lost in the forest for four days without food or water.
Dana never gave up, and is now safe.
Thanks to your overwheming generosity, mothers like Dana have the chance for a better life. The funds raised throughout February will help ensure families in need around the world have basic necessities like food, clean water, shelter and medicine.
